THE SPICY REVENGE

She sat in the Starbucks cafe, sipping her coffee and staring out of the window. The blood stained knife lay next to her handbag, covered with her blue silk scarf. . She finally had the last laugh. Annie’s family consisted of husband Joseph and her mother in law Brenda. Joseph D’Souza gave his entire life to Azure Limited and always the promotions went to those who were close and cosy with the boss. This made him very depressed and affected his work too. Annie too faced problems at home for mother in law and her favourite rooster were always hatching plans as to how Annie’s life could be
. made miserable .Joseph hadn’t lost his hopes yet and had decided to call his boss over for dinner. He requested Annie to make Chicken biryani for his boss such that he could impress him.   Annie had her heart set to making the entire dinner party a huge success. Right from selecting the flower arrangements to the cutlery she had made mental notes for each thing possible. Brenda was the typical mother in law who feared that her son would get distant from her due to the influence of his wife. She would constantly along with her favourite rooster create chaos which would be left behind for Annie to clear While Annie toiled hard for preparing the Biryani ,Brenda conspired against her. She set out to make the evening a spicy one, a really spicy one. As the night progressed, Annie and Joseph hosted his boss and his family and served them food, wine and much more. Mr Ahuja was madly love in with the Biryani and also asked his Mrs to get the recipe for the same.

Brenda was waiting for her rooster to come around for his food as he usually would by the time the cuckoo clock would strike 10:00. It was already past ten and he was nowhere to be seen. She cried out for Roger the rooster across the entire neighbourhood and he was nowhere to be seen and even got into a fight with neighbours as they always considered roger a nuisance.
As the days passed life at the D’Souza household went back to normal. One fine evening Joseph came running home and called out for Annie. His euphoria levels were sky high and he could barely breathe. Finally he had been promoted to the post of Assistant manager. A promotion long due and a promotion which was driven be the fragrance of the wonderful biryani which refuses to go away from the taste buds of Mr Ahuja .

Brenda was happy and the same time shocked as to how anybody could a very spicy biryani which was laced by a huge amount of red chilli powder. Anyways putting her curiosity aside she joined the celebrations of her son’s promotion.

Annie today sat at Starbucks cafĂ© sipping her black coffee with no sugar smiling and thought of how she butchered Roger to save Joseph’s reputation and at the same time got even with Brenda. Beneath her newly gifted Zara blue colour scarf lay the weapon or should I say a souvenir to Annie’s victory against schemes hatched by Brenda.
